Ninebullets Radio

For the first time in my short radio career I had to program a show last night despite not feeling very well. While the show (i think) turned out pretty good it was really tough to get inspired to search out much brand new music. I did manage to get some brand new songs from Denver’s Bonnie and the Beard, Portland’s Michael Dean Damron, Orlando’s The Woolly Bushmen, Louisiana’s Hurray For The Riff Raff and the internet’s Noah with his “semi-viral” cover of LMFAO’s “Sexy And I Know It.”

If that sounds like the good stuff go put some ears on the archived stream of the show and thanks for tuning in.

Whew. I’m a little late getting this one up. The past 3 days have been a whirlwind of beer, vodka, whiskey, rock shows and front porch laughs but now it’s back to the real world…

Anyhow, last week’s show featured Von from Americana Rock Mix pulling a cohost stint. It’s been a while since we had Von in studio so it was a whole lot of fun. He pulled a lot of the music for the show and much of it, I’d never even heard before. I bookended the show with a Beastie Boys cover and one of their hits while dropping a little McDougall in the middle of it all. Von and I have a worthwhile discussion about The Gaslight Anthem and the possibility that they’re just a one trick pony in the middle of it all too. If none of that is enough to entice you into listening to the show did you know that James Leg (Black Diamond Heavies) and Left Lane Cruiser are putting out an album together? Neither did I! But I did play the first single during the show.

Sound like the good stuff? Then go put some ears on the archived stream of the show.

Most of the time you go to the station, do your show and leave. It becomes a routine of sorts. Occasionally you do a show that you really feel good about. Last night was one such show. Not sure what it is that sets some apart from the rest but whatever it is, last night’s has it.

I opened the show with a Lumineers, Mastersons, The District Attorneys set I’d been thinking about doing for a few weeks but wasn’t sure how it would go over with the listeners. While the middle of the show features a brand new Gaslight Anthem track as well as a set featuring some of the bands I am looking forward to seeing at next week’s Tropical Heatwave. Finally, on a whim I decided to close the show with a track from the new OFF! album. That’s probably what put the show over the top for me.

Sound like the good stuff? Then go put some ears on the archived stream of the show.

I was awarded “Programmer Of The Year” by the brass at 88.5 WMNF for my work on Ninebullets Radio and I have every intention of bragging about it. Last night the trophy showed up so I you know had to post a picture of it.

Speaking of Ninebullets Radio. We’ve got a brand new episode coming your way tonight at 10pm Eastern so nvite a friend over, imbibe in some adult beverages and tune in: 88.5 FM if you’re in the Tampa Bay area and streaming live on wmnf.org if you’re anywhere else in the world.

BTW: If you have an hour to fill today, why not check out the archive of last week’s show.

Eazy-E – Radio
LL Cool J – I Can’t Live Without My Radio

The past few weeks have seen 9b Radio sit in a more mellow groove so I decided to up the rock level of this week’s show. It certainly didn’t hurt to have Truckstop Darlin’ and Tin Horn Prayer send me brand new songs and when you combined those with Sunday Valley, an unreleased track from the Bohannons the rock kind of upped itself. Even the requests fit the overall feel I was going for last night so good job to the listeners. Now! Go put some ears on the archived stream of the show.
