In the newest installment of Wannabe, artist Chris Prunckle does things a little different as he makes his way to the Roots N Blues N BBQ in Columbia, Missouri. Read (and view) on to see his take on this fest in his signature six-panel comic strip form…
Just recently I had the pleasure of attending “Roots N Blues N BBQ” in Columbia, Missouri for three days of amazing live music, fantastic beer, delicious food, and some of the chillest, most laid back concert-goers I have ever had the privilege to commune with. Thirty-five acts played over the course of the weekend ranging from classic to modern, blues to Americana, and young to old. The entire fest was held at Stephens Lake Park, which offered more than enough space for the two stages, multiple food vendors, and thousands of fans in attendance, assuring that you never felt caged in or claustrophobic, as many fests can get. In a huge departure from what I’m used to, “RNBNBBQ” actually allowed attendees to bring chairs with them into the grounds which helped lay the groundwork for the relaxed atmosphere I experienced. People were able to spread out and if they wanted, set up shop and just take in the festivities at their leisure. If you can’t tell, I was blown away by the hospitality of everyone at the fest and even more impressed by the organization and quality of the show that was put on. The only thing better than the fest were the bands, and now for the first time, but hopefully not the last, here’s my “Wannabe at the Fest” comic breakdown of my favorite acts from “RNBNBBQ.” Click on the image for full resolution (best viewed on desktop):
