We all have them. Those tracks that may or may not be “bad” per se. They’re just not as good as the rest of the bands songs. They’re the tracks that you end up skipping more often than not so you can get to the next song. So, let’s hear yours. It’ll be interesting to see what other people’s opinions of your least favorite tracks from your favorite band are.
As I said before, currently my favorite band is Lucero and these are my 5 least favorite songs by them:
Lucero – Bikeriders
Lucero – Hold Me Close
Lucero – She’s Just That Kind Of Girl
Lucero – She Wakes When She Dreams
Lucero – The Devil And Maggie Chascarillo

I like Hold Me Close quite a bit, but I absolutely love the acoustic w/strings version from “Shotgun Stories” (which you can hear on the movie’s website): http://www.shotgunstories.com/
you’re right Beldo. Those strings add something to it…
Remind me to punch you in the face when we meet, I love those songs.
There’s only 1 bad Lucero song and that’s ‘Smoke’.
and…that movie is available for streaming on Netflix….added to instant que.
My heart sunk at seeing Bikeriders at number one on this list, and it sunk even further the more I read.
Lucero being my favorite band, I’ll play along as well:
“Sixteen”
“Sixes And Sevens”
“Sing Me No Hymns”
“Wandering Star”
I’m struggling to find that fifth one. The thing with Lucero though is, I can even come around to the “bad” songs because I can associate them with a specific time and/or place.
I still cringe at how high the lead guitar was on the pre-release of “Sixes And Sevens”, but after seeing it in concert so many times, I’ve totally turned around on it.
going with the tom petty since that’s what i listed last time (tho, lately, justin townes earle has been getting most of my attention).
not in any particular order:
1. mary jane’s last dance
2. honey bee
3. you don’t know how it feels
4. don’t come around here no more
5. louisiana rain
ok, maybe that is in a particular order (with 1 being my least fav and so on…). however, to be fair, i don’t really listen to much post-mid-90′s tom petty, this is based on the albums i actually play on a regular basis (and the tracks i habitually skip).
What’s funny is that “Sing Me No Hymns” is one of my Top 10 Lucero tracks…
Sing Me No Hymns would prob have to be one of my least fav Lucero songs…
Bikeriders????????!?!??!
She Wakes When She Dreams!?!??!!?
Drive By Truckers-
-Presidents Penis
-Loaded Gun in the Closet
-John Henry
-Checkout time in vegas
-The Opening Act
I’d keep the same list just substitute Nobody’s Darling’s for Bikeriders. Its funny Nobody’s Darling’s is my favorite album but least favorite song.
North Mississippi Allstars are my favorite band and, dude, if you make a crack at how they’ve been sucking the past few albums…I’ll….well….*insert violent threat*
Anyhoo, there are a few songs I COULD do without and are as follows in no particular order.
Hurry Up Sunrise
Kidz Theze Dayz(Seriously? Luther, stop letting little brother write songs)
Long Way From Home
It’s not 5 cause I could only come up with 3.
I hope the boys don’t take this personal
Two Cow Garage
1. Wooden Teeth
2. Camo Jacket
3. Mediocre
4. Now I know
5. Farmtown
I have to say that Camo jacket is one of my favorite Two Cow Garage songs…
Pick any five songs off Dylan’s “Self Portrait”
The Chairman – I’ll give ya Farmtown but the other four are pretty great songs. Wooden Teeth and Camo are actually pretty high on my fav list.
Drive-By Truckers:
1.You Got Another
2.(Its Gonna Be) I Told You So
3.I’m Sorry Huston
4.The Purgatory Line
5.Little Pony And The Great Big Horse
Holy shit don’t let the chick sing anymore and the little pony song just plain sucks anyway!
DBT is my favorite band. Least favorite songs would have to be…
The Purgatory Line
Daylight
A Blessing And A Curse
You And Your Crystal Meth
The Flying Wallendas
Daylight is, by far, my least favorite. I HATE that song. Makes me want to gouge my eyes out.
Yeah- I will have to add “You and your crystal Meth” and that damn Pony Song to the worst Truckers songs….What the hell was Cooley thinking it may have been for his son or somthing, but he should have never released it.
Please note that the list here is “the least favorite songs from your favorite band.” I like those tunes I would just rank the 35 other 2Cow songs ahead of them. If however the band put those 5 songs out as an EP ahead of their first full length album they would be my favorite songs from my future favorite band.
Flyers win in overtime.
Re: Two Cow – Camo Jacket is easily in my top 5 favourites, also really love Mediocre. Wooden Teeth was one I skipped a bunch initially, but it’s grown on me quite a bit.
Pick any 5 songs from the Big To-Do. Nuff said about a band I used to drive for hours to see.
Woah, I’ve never seen Bikeriders on anyones least favourite list before.
Off the top of my head…
1. On the Way Back Home
2. I Don’t Want to Be the One (Rick needed to be reigned in)
3. Weight of Guilt (Only song I haven’t tabbed, I think)
4. Banks of the Arkansas
5. What Are You Willing to Lose? (the horns riff bugs me)
Even so, in the right moment, I can even enjoy my least favorite Lucero tunes.
@acedbt and @dugtee61
I actually like Little Pony and the Great Big Horse personally, though I can understand WHY you don’t care for it so much.
@John- I understand that the truckers have changed direction in the last few albums…especially Patterson lyricaly. They are in a different place now, but I saw them a couple of months back and they still play songs like Company I keep, and Hell no I aint Happy with the same emotion as he did nearly 10 years ago. The past few albums definetly dont compare to earlier works but I would still drive to see the live show.
Bikeriders…? That’s just nuts.
The Devil And Maggie Chascarillo is one of my favorite tracks off the new album. The song is about one of the best comic book series/characters of all time. Love & Rockets/Maggie the Mechanic.
@acedbt The first listen to this album reminded me of the first time John Lennon let Yoko sing on one of his albums…and I’ve never recovered from that either.
The Rainmakers! Outta Kansas, totally underrated and all round ace albums, lyrics tunes and performances. Heres my least favourite songs by em:
Knock on Wood
Shiny Shiny
Spite
Nobody Knows
Hoo dee hoo
But do check out at least the album The Good News and the Bad News for a really stone cold country/rock classic.
@Noah The phrase “Rick needed to be reigned in” is a joke. I vote put Rick on every song. You must not be a fan of having keys or organ on a song. It’s understandable. Start listening to the Band more, if you don’t already. It’ll give you a whole new appreciation.
Nat,
I love what Rick brings to Lucero, and I think I have almost everything The Band ever recorded. Besides, the farfisa on that song has a lot more in common with the Organ on old Elvis Costello records than Garth Hudson’s playing.
Different strokes, I guess. I’d compare it to the way some people feel about Brian’s lead on Sixes and Sevens. Sometimes less is more.
your list is pretty blasphemous
here’s mine
“Noon As Dark As Midnight”
“Wandering Star”
and yep that’s it. my bottom 5 and its only 2.
you are an idiot. respect each band for what they play, I’d like to see you do better.
