The Waifs are probably one of the best and most decorated folk/roots rock bands that you’ve never heard of. Coming out of West Australia, the band is made of sisters Vikki Thorn (harmonica, guitar, vocals) and Donna Simpson (guitar, vocals) and they are joined by Josh Cunningham (guitar, vocals). Two years ago they emerged from a three year hiatus to release Sun, Dirt, Water, which they toured on last year.  Two shows from that tour were culled into Live From The Union Station, a 14 track live album that combines songs spanning their entire discography with a couple of covers plus a reworked and bluegrassed-up version of “When I Die”.  The album has a real intimate feel to it, which is impressive considering the sizes of the crowds they can play to. It would be an excellent introduction to The Waifs, my only complaint is the absence of “Vermillion” and “Fisherman’s Daughter” from the tracklisting.

You can also get the album over on Amie Street for less than five dollars.

The Waifs – London Still
The Waifs – SunDirtWater
The Waifs – When I Die

Bonus tracks that I wish they’d included:

The Waifs – Fisherman’s Daughter
The Waifs – Vermillion
