I tend to get so wrapped up in all the alt.country/punk.country/goth.country/<insert here>.country offshoots that I sometimes forget all about plain ol’ country.country.

St. Louis, Missourians, The Linemen, make country.country music. The kind, if you’re old like me, your dad listened to. Scott Swartz’s pedal steel seems to wring every ounce of sorrow from Butterfield’s silky smooth voice for 12 tracks of heartache and grown men crying. So if you are in need of some drinking and crying music, then Through Side One is right up your alley.

The Linemen are Kevin Butterfield (Vocals, Acoustic Guitar), John Baldus (Drums), Greg Lamb (Bass) and Scott Swartz (Pedal Steel, Guitar, Backing Vocals) and they are “St. Louis’ Best Traditional Country Band” per the Riverfront Times. Their debut cd, Through Side One, was released in February of 2007.
