Wife: On your lunch hour can you go get me the Flobots cd?
Me: Who?
Wife: The Flobots
Me: Who is that?
Wife: This band I’ve heard on XM I like
Me: ::rolls eyes:: I guess
Flash forward a couple of hours. Wife and I are in car going to some long forgotten location.
Wife: Turn that up a little.
Volume 21…22…23…24…
Wife: That’s The Flobots.
Radio: “I can ride a bike with no handlebars, no handlebars. Look at me, Look at me, hands in the air like it’s good to be”
Volume 24…23….22…21…20…19…18..17…15…14…
Wife: You’re such a music asshole sometimes.
Me: ::roll eyes::
Wife: You better get the cd for me.
Me: *sigh* Don’t Worry. I’ll get it.
Wife: You should listen to it.
Me: whatever
Wife: sighrollseyesshakesheadsighsagain
Volume 14…15…16…17…
radio whispering: “I can make new antibiotics, I can make computers survive aquatic conditions, I know how to run a business, And I can make you wanna buy a product”
Me: ::roll eyes::
BUT…I did listen to it. I do like it.
That track they are playing on XM, “Handlebars”, sucks, but it’s the only track on the album that does. Now, I ain’t gonna pretend to know shit about The Flobots other than I like this album. I don’t even know if they are popular or not, but considering the fact that none of their raps invent a new dance or prop up a new energy drink, I am gonna guess that the answer is no. They really remind me of a new version of the 90′s industrial/political rap band Consolidated. I gotta admit it, the wife was right on about these guys. Check ‘em out, and if you live in the Tampa/St. Pete area you can see them at The State Theater on July 29. I’ll be there.

The Flobots are addicting! I got the cd a few weeks ago and love it. I too will be at the State Theatre show with a few friends.
That Handlebars song kinda reminds me of Cake with the monotone rap and snazzy brass bits… kinda. I’ll have to check out the album now.
AIV….most of the time you are dead on and we like the same music for the most part…BUT that handle bars track is the fucking shit….the fucking shit
fucking shit…
yup.
I checked these guys out based on the rec. Not sold yet… kinda sounds like Rage-lite, but I’ll keep listening.
DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM BECAUSE OF THE SONG “HANDLEBARS”!!! I got the album for free and I still want my money back. It’s a shame a group like the Flobots can get famous when there are some drastically more talented underground hip hop artists out there. Apathy and the demigodz for one, SHITS on the flobots.
It’s nice that The Flobots are getting attention because they’re from my state (Colorado), but they are definitely not the best thing in Colorado. They’re catchy, and they’re better than the only other famous Colorado band, The Fray, but I just wish Colorado bands like Hot IQs and American Relay would get some more attention…but whatever. Handlebars was pretty sweet when it came out like 2 years ago. Now I’m kind of annoyed with it.
I will be seeing American Relay tonight.
You might roll your eyes less to the tatse of A’s Rage.
“God wrote even Wrote Me A Letter” is a solid tune
…You might roll your eyes less, you might.
Good for you for giving them a second chance. Even if you don’t like their music, their social activism is worthy of applause. They spent the entire electoral campaign working with Rock the Vote, and I was very impressed with their take on the issues. Check out the video if you’re inclined:
