Sorry for missing yesterday. Things around work got interesting and I just didn’t have time (or the courage to risk getting caught) to post to ninebullets. Anyhow, a really awesome piece of news. In addition to doing my weekly stint on Ninebullets Radio this week I will also be acting as a guest host from 12-2pm on Friday for the “It’s The Music” show. So, if you get a chance you should check it out.
The other day this video landed in my inbox and I’ve been meaning to share it ever since. I love all things Joe Pug and this video is basically video snap shots of the past year since the release of his 2010 effort, Messenger. Not to mention a fucking awesome song. Check it out:
And finally, the newest Feel Bad For You mixtape has come out. Unfortunately, work was too strange this month and I forgot to send a song in but it somehow manages to be awesome despite my absence:
Damnit. This podcast was supposed to be posted the last weekend of April but when I made the podcast apparently my microphone was messing up, so I had to go back and rerecord all the parts where I was talking. As a result, it’s a little late but the music in this episode makes it worth the wait.
This month’s podcast opens with what is, in my opinion, song of the year so far, “Highway 42” by Grayson Capps, and just keeps crushing from there on out. It features Matt Woods, The Only Sons, Have Gun Will Travel and Two Cow Garage, all of whom are playing my birthday party tonight. It also features brand new music from plenty of bands you know, as well as a few you might not.
I’ll leave y’all to the music after a quick request. If you like what you’re hearing on these podcasts, tell you friends about it. Post about it on your Facebook wall. Tweet about it. These bands are all pretty small so every new ear their music find counts, and you can directly assist them in that effort by telling people about this podcast and others like it. So, your challenge for the month of May, should you accept it, is to tell 5 people you think would appreciate this music about a podcast or website. I’d love if it was the 9B Podcast or ninebullets.net, but it doesn’t have to be.

Hey everyone, just a reminder that if you enjoy these podcasts, we do a weekly radio show on Thursday nights here in Tampa/St. Pete on 88.5. WMNF. The show is on from 10pm – 11pm and can be heard live via the internet via wmnf.org. And should you miss the show, no worries! It’s available all week via the archives.
Phew! Back from SxSW and back at work. 9B as normal will resume tomorrow. I have some good videos and a few stories I’ll relay over the coming week or so as well. SxSW was good. It was wise to lay off the booze this year. I had a lot more fun and feel way better in the afterglow that I did last year. Other than that it was a typical SxSW. Friends were made, friends were lost, miles were walked and shows were seen. I’d like to drop a special thank you to the guys from Two Cow Garage for basically talking me off a ledge one morning and to all the bands who played or showed up to watch the 9B parties. If anyone is interested, my version of a SxSW photoblog is after the cut: Continue reading “BACK FROM SxSW (WITH PHOTOBLOG):”
UPDATE: WE HAD TO UPDATE SOME TIMES TO HELP THE BANDS ACCOMMODATE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES COMING THEIR WAY. THIS SHOULD BE THE FINAL BAND ORDER FOR BOTH DAYS.
As anyone who got within earshot of me can attest, by the end of SxSW last year I had had it. Austin had defeated me. I was tired of being drunk, tired of walking and just plain tired. In a word, I was done.
Well. Flash forward almost a year and I’m preparing to go do back an do the battle of attrition once again and we’re bringing the party back! This year not only is the ninebullets.net party actually located downtown, it’s also gonna be two days and featuring plenty on ninebullets.net regulars. You’ll find all the info for both days below as wall as a sampler of the artists appearing at the shows. If you’re planning on attending please make sure to RSVP on the Facebook event pages (Friday, Saturday) and feel free to add to the invite lists for both days.
Over the past year, Murfreesboro, TN’s The Only Sons have become one of the fixture bands here on ninebullets. It all started when I met them out in Austin during SxSW and since then they’ve played the ninebullets anniversary party and are about to be down for my birthday party, as well as Tropical Heatwave (a big festival 88.5 WMNF does every May). I guess you could say that over the past year, if ninebullets were a bar, The Only Sons would be one of its house bands.
Last week saw the release of The Only Sons’ second album, American Stranger, on the thisisamericanmusic.com website/label. It was recorded in the church in which bassist Jonathan Merrit’s mother is the pastor and whose parsonage the band calls home, with Glossary front man Joey Kneiser at the helm in the producer role.
Replacing riffs with twang and Thin Lizzy influences with Springsteen, one could musically describe The Only Sons (and American Stranger) as Glossary’s brooding cousin from the country. From the swooping pedal steel and defiant lyrics of “Put Up A Fight”, to the reserved lament of “Standing Water”, or the crunchy march of “Gone Down Swinging”, American Stranger is about as pure of a Southern rock record as you’re gonna find these days and an anchor album on the 9B Essential Listening list.
(AIV Note: This was supposed to be posted yesterday but my dumb ass forgot to upload the podcast to the server. Der, I iz full of forgets….anyhow, enjoy.)
Well, it might be a new year and I might have a radio show now but nothing really changes when it comes to the podcast. It starts nice enough and you might even be able to hear some improvement gleaned from doing a weekly radio show but it quickly devolves into a ½ drunk foul mouthed typical podcast. Don’t let that deter you though. While my speech and self-censoring abilities may erode over the hour the music fucking slays and that’s what you’re here for, right?
Well folks, that’s it. Another month in the can and I hope y’all like it. If you do, could you please, please, please post something about it on twitter, facebook and whatever cutting edge social network I am oblivious to? Every mention of this will expose these artists to someone who’s never heard of them and that’s what we’re looking for.
Michael Claytor & His Friends – Hairpins [00.00.00]
Autopsy IV Commentary [00.05.04]
The Only Sons – Temptation [00.06.24]
Kasey Anderson – The Wrong Light [00.09.55]
Danzig – The Revengeful [00.14.07]
Autopsy IV Commentary [00.18.02]
Social Distortion – Machine Gun Blues [00.20.07]
Lucero – Sing Me No Hymns [00.23.45]
Autopsy V Commentary [00.27.37]
The Decemberists – Down By The Water [00.30.00]
Frank Turner – I Still Believe [00.33.37]
Two Cow Garage – My Great Gatsby [00.37.20]

Tim Barry – (memento mori) [00.46.22]
Slim Cessna’s Auto Club – This Land Is Our Land (Redux) [00.49.25]
I’ve given up on the guest posts for the time being. It took a little over 2 hours to download the three T-Model Ford mp3s from my home server and reupload them to the 9B server. Insanity. So, until I get to a better connection they’re on hold.
