Hangar 18: Bloggers v. Rockers Fantasy Football – Week 7 Summary

What is Hangar 18? I quote from Ear Farm:

Behold, ladies and gentlemen, the first season of Hangar 18: the Bloggers v. Rockers Fantasy Football League. This league pits six bloggers (My Old Kentucky Blog, Gorilla Vs. Bear, Ear Farm, ninebullets, Indie Interviews, and I Guess I’m Floating) against six musicians (Tapes N Tapes, Vicious Vicious, Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s, The Muggabears, Arizona, and Mancino) in a battle to decide who amongst the twelve of us will reign supreme as the Indie Rock CHAMPION of Fantasy Football.

Damnit man. What a crappy week. My favorite teams: Florida State Seminoles, USF Bulls and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lost, Lost and…..Lost. I got 3 fantasy teams including Hangar 18…..loss, loss and yes, another loss. I am sub-500 so there really isn’t anything to say except for the obvious: I suck.

Well, there just ain’t no way to sugar coat this. I am on the precipice of a slump. Having lost in the last 2 weeks and more importantly, having failed to take advantage of LT finally breaking out of his shell, I really need to get a damn win this weekend. Fortunately, my opponent is a mere 2-4 but with wins in the last 2 weeks we could quite possibly be 2 teams heading in 2 different directions. Maybe Tom Brady will get food poisoning.

Week 5 came and went with the leagues top dog, Arizona, going Wake Forest on this poor little Seminole. This drops me to 3-2 and square in the middle of mediocrity. Here is the real sumbitch. I am putting serious thought into starting a WR who is on a bye week since I really don’t wanna drop any of my mediocre receivers for a more mediocre, or just plain shitty receiver. It seems like the smart play for the long run but feels like sacrilege for this particular week. Especially since I am facing off against the always incompetent and generally icky Wolfpack fan: Ear Farm. Tune in next week to see how it went all goes down.

I gotta admit, I talked a lot of shit last week. My friend asked me what song about having your nose rubbed in shit I was gonna select if I lost. I just quoted Dan Bern quoting Muhammed Ali and said, “it ain’t braggin’ if it’s true”. I promptly followed that up with the FSU over Bama style defeat of the Muggabears, which is to say it wasn’t as close as the score might suggest. Perhaps they will go into hiding, write a song about this, and thank me in their liner notes. This week…oh yes! The puppet head must fall. The mighty team that is ninebullets.net will face off against the untested and undefeated team that is Arizona. Pfffftttt…victory will be mine, at which point I will hold a piece of first place.

Week Four Results:

Ear Farm (57) defeated Tapes N Tapes/Vicious Vicious (55)
Gorilla Vs. Bear (76) defeated Mancino (50)

The League’s theme song: Megadeth – Hangar 18
My theme song for this week: Dan Bern – Tiger Woods

AS A SIDE NOTE: I deem this day ‘Fuck Dodge and His Old Kentucky Blog Day’ AND ‘Fuck Ear Farm‘ day. Fuck ’em both with a studded donkey dick. Why? Why you ask? Because they are Indianapolis Colts and NC State fans respectively. Yes, this is a football fan thing. My Tampa Bay Buccaneers roll into Indy this Sunday with a renewed swagger, two rookie offensive linemen and no pass rush. It ain’t looking good for the boys but stranger things have happened. The Colts are soft…hit ’em in the face and they tend to turtle up. Hit Manning a few times and he rolls his little bottom lip out. So the prescription for Tampa victory is a hope, a prayer and some hyper-aggression bordering on unsportsmanlike.

To Dodge and his Perfect Peyton: Ugly Kid Joe – Everything About You

and Ear Farm….Ear Farm, Ear Farm, Ear Farm. Your Wolfpack may have stood a chance two weeks ago, but I was there last week. I was in the stadium to witness the reawakening of the Seimnole-nation. Yes, Xavier the Savior took the field, and with him came offense. An offense that looks as though it will not need to be carried by that top 10 defense any longer. If Xavier continues the way he started….Wolfpack get a beat down and Amato gets the Gatorade bath.

Hangar 18 Update: Week 3

There wasn’t a week two update. I lost, but that’s not the reason for it. Basically work was a muthafucka, there was a brand new puppy in the house, and the wife was getting ready to leave for a week. All of that left my schedule all flamuxicated, and stack that with being at the USF/N. Carolina game on Saturday, and nothing got done. So, as I said…Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s got lucky, caught me on a down week and stole a victory and this week it was poor ol’ Indie Interviews that had to feel my wrath. Here are the results of week 3:

Ear Farm (97) bitchslapped Gorilla Vs. Bear (91)
My Old Kentucky Blog (102) bitchslapped Mancino (79)
Arizona (90) bitchslapped Tapes N Tapes/Vicious Vicious (74)
The Muggabears (115) bitchslapped Tapes N Tapes (Josh) (86)
ninebullets (126) bitchslapped Indie Interviews (112)
Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s (107) bitchslapped I Guess I’m Floating (51)

Ah yeah. Hear that? That’s the sound of Indie Interviews’ ass getting spanked like my wife on my birthday. This week the Muggabears are coming my way to get a lesson in fantasy football…This week’s leaguewide matchups are as follows:

Tapes N Tapes/Vicious Vicious (vs) Ear Farm
Gorilla Vs. Bear (vs) Mancino
I Guess I’m Floating (vs) My Old Kentucky Blog
Arizona (vs) Tapes N Tapes (Josh)
The Muggabears (vs) ninebullets
Indie Interviews (vs) Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s

And finally, here are the current standings…

1. Arizona (3-0) (I spotted them a head start)
2. The Muggabears (2-0-1) (’bout to get that first loss cause 9b.net don’t do ties)
3. Indie Interviews (2-1) (humbled…do Samurai’s still fall on their own swords?)
4. My Old Kentucky Blog (2-1) (probably still sad about the Louisville loss…here come the Bulls bitch)
5. ninebullets (2-1)
6. Ear Farm (2-1) (ninebullets > Ear Farm)
7. Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s (2-1) (you’re on my list…)
8. Tapes ‘n Tapes (Josh) (1-2) (perhaps they should watch a little more tape)
9. I Guess I’m Floating (1-2) (uhh…I think you’re sinking to the bottom of the league)
10. Tapes ‘n Tapes/Vicious Vicious (Erik) (0-2-1) (two teams…one win…for shame…)
11. Gorilla vs. Bear (0-3) (good blog…bad team)
12. Mancino (0-3) (currently Mr. Irrelevant)

Some songs:

League theme song: Megadeth – Hangar 18
Since I lost week 2 this one goes out to me: Beck – Loser
Since I did not loseWeight Exercise week 3 this is for me: Alabama – Can’t Keep a Good Man Down
This one goes out to those Muggapunks: Ludacris – Move Bitch

As a side note: Tampa’s own USF Bulls (#18) will be facing the couch-burning hillbilles known as the West Virginia Mountaineers (#5) tonight on ESPN2…I am blowing outta work at noon so I can start the drinking….Can USF win? Sure. They won last season in Morganstown. USF has the defensive speed to possibly slow down that WV rushing attack…This is the first step to winning the Big East…..HOOK ‘EM BULLS.GO BULLS!!!! Rage Against the Machine – Bulls on Parade

After the game I am leaving for Jacksonville so that I can watch my Florida State Seminoles play another collection of hillbillies….the University of Alabama. Despite the storied history of bothh programs this will the their first meeting ever. Hopefully, I have a good football weekend.

GO NOLES!!! War Chant

The Bloggers versus Rockers:

I am a football fan. Anyone who comes around here very often pretty much knows that. Well, I joined this particular fantasy football league this season and I think it is gonna lead to a regular weekend update for the season. I quote from Ear Farm:

Bear, Ear Farm, ninebullets, Indie Interviews, and I Guess I’m Floating) against six musicians (Tapes N Tapes, Vicious Vicious, Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s, The Muggabears, Arizona, and Mancino) in a battle to decide who amongst the twelve of us will reign supreme as the Indie Rock CHAMPION of Fantasy Football.

the struggle of the sports fan

Every year during this is the week I tell myself that this is the year I detatch myself emotionally from football. I tell myself that this year I will watch the games for the entertainment value they provide and not get so wrapped up in the “thrill of victory” or “the agony of defeat“….there will be NO MORE kicked chairs….NO MORE slammed doors….NO MORE thrown remotes….NO MORE wanting to kick the guy with the other teams jersey on the other side of the bars ass….NO MORE screaming at the tv….NO MORE scaring the dog out of the room….NO MORE I say….NO MORE….every year during this week I try and convince myself to act like an adult this season….act like you’ve seen it all before…and this year is no different….

But tonight @ 8:30….when the FSU/Clemson game kicks off I will not be able to help it….all of the pregame show I will be reformed….rehabilitated if you will…I will see the Clemson hats and jerseys and I will not care…I will laugh along with the 10 year tired “Free Shoes U” jokes…I will be civilized and mature…then, Clemson will get a break and they will cheer…and it is over…

maybe next year will be the year….thus continues the struggle of the sports fan.

okay. two sports posts in two days. not a norm for the site but here they are nonetheless. The Lightning take their super offense and their shaky goal tending to New Jersey tonight for Game 1. My personal opinion: The Lightning have a team capable of winning the Cup but do not have the goal tending to get them out of the first round but that will not stop me from bellying up to the bar tonight for the game.

GO BOLTS!

Regular music posts will continue later on today.
