NINEBULLETS.NET JULY PODCAST:

Holy. Crap. Talk about getting one in right under the wire. No matter. We’re here. tt’s still July and the podcast is live, so let’s talk about it.

This month’s podcast is divided into two halves. The first half is all about new music. In that section we have a song from the upcoming Lucero cd, 1372 Overton Park, as well as a phenomenal cover of Lucero’s “Better Than This” by ninebullets.net faves, The Fox Hunt. Incidentally, the new Lucero album is currently up for preorder. If you do preorder it, not only will you get the physical cd a few weeks prior to the “official” release date, you’ll also immediately get to download a six song preview of the album (from whence the song on this podcast came). While we’re on the preorder tip, there is a also song on the podcast from the new Chris Knight album, Trailer Tapes II. Like the new Lucero, Chris’ album is up for preorder, but if you preorder it now you’ll get to download a digital copy of the whole album immediately.

The second half of the podcast features bands from this year’s Deep Blues Festival, which I plan on posting a complete recap of next week. I featured American Relay in this segment who, unfortunately, played their last show ever at the Festival. I believe they have a new album coming out, but there will be no touring to support it. Also featured is Davina and The Vagabonds. I had high hopes for this band and they lived up to every one. Matter of fact, during their set I tweeted the following, “Davina and the Vagabonds. Music you should fuck to“. I also decided to include Woodsbossman, Tom VandenAvond. He looks like he could be Scott H. Biram’s little brother and he writes some fine, fine music.

I closed this month’s Podcast with a track from Gainesville’s The Takers. Their new album has finally been released and you can get it at all your favorite digital outlets, plus you can read about the album here.

And that does it. Another month comes to pass. I am pretty happy with this month’s podcast and I think y’all will like it. Do me a favor, though. If you listen and you enjoy the show, please tell other people about it. The website’s stats have been increasing this month, but the podcast’s stats have been in decline. I am gonna try to do more advertising of the show this month, but nothing beats word of mouth.

Thanks, everyone. ~Autopsy IV (twitter: @autopsy4)

NINEBULLETS.NET JUNE PODCAST:

Whew! Talk about getting this one in just under the wire. This month was nutzo with 80 Proof Music, a brief break and all sorts of other stuff. No matter though cause we’re coming in on time with some great music to fill your July 4th weekend up with.

I decided to shorten up the nine bullets intro music this month. I’m not very happy with how it ended up and I hope to make a better edit of it in the coming weeks or I’ll just go back to posting the whole song. What do you think? Do you like hearing all of Nine Bullets each month or would you prefer a shortened version of it?

This month’s podcast includes a new track by one of our favorite rock bands, The Whipsaws as well as a track from fellow Alaskan, Matthew Dean Herman which comes from his Evan Phillip’s (The Whipsaws / E.S.P.) produced debut, Blackbird. The album is fantastic and I’ve got a nice little write-up about it I plan on posting next week. As you’ll see in the track listing below there is also a fun little segment of cover songs and we round things off with a rocking/punk-blues segment followed by a set of songs with a more traditional blues sound.

I decided to close the show with some nerdcore hiphop tracks. The Master Onion song is from an old video game called PaRappa The Rapper that I just adored. I followed that up with two artists from Scrub Club Records that have just been blowing me away for the past week. You can download both of their albums over on Scrub Club for free and I’d advise you to do it….they’re doing the whole nerdcore thing on a totally new level.

July is gonna be another crazy month. I am hitting up Nerdapalooza and The Deep Blues Festival in July. I’m sure I am gonna be exposed to (and get) a shit ton of new music and my guess is that the July podcast will be focused on that stuff….I dunno about you, but I can’t wait.

Okay, that’s enough typing, let’s get to the track list and the music:

NINEBULLETS.NET MAY 2009 PODCAST

We’re back with another podcast. This month features a couple of tracks from the upcoming Evan Phillips benefit album, as well as a track from the upcoming Joey Allcorn album All Alone Again.

Evan Phillips is the front man for one of my favorite new rock and roll bands, The Whipsaws, as well as a member of the trio E.S.P., with Tim Easton and Leeroy Stagger. Seven years ago he suffered an injury while climbing a mountain in California and had surgery to try and repair it, but the surgery was ineffective.  He’s been trying to live with it, but last year it got much worse and The Whipsaws were forced to cancel the remainder of their tour so Evan could get it fixed properly. Unfortunately, there is no insurance plan for touring musicians, so Evan was left with a mountain of bills. The benefit album was put together to help Evan out, while also getting some awesome music out to us (seems more fair than the Paste deal). Featured on the album are 11 bands including Tim Easton, Leeroy Stagger, Ryebender and Wrinkle Neck Mules performing their takes on Evan’s songs. It comes out June 15 so keep an eye on the myspace profile and buy one or two when they become available.

I also decided to do a segment featuring some local area bands, Will Quinlan & The Diviners, Truckstop Coffee and Roppongi’s Ace. All three are part of the upper-crust of the Tampa/Central Florida music scene and they all have albums for sale. I hope y’all like this segment and check out their music in greater detail, I am gonna do this again next month with three more bands from my local scene. I also plan on writing up Roppongi’s Ace’s completely awesome album, Into The Night, next week so be on the lookout.

You may also notice that I’ve added the timestamp to each song in the track listing. That was a suggestion from a reader that I thought was brilliant. If you have any suggestions on how I can make this podcast better, please email me. I’m not too proud, and lord knows I am learning this podcast thing on the fly. And if you’re a band that would like their music featured on the podcast, again, email me.

Okay, that’s enough talking, let’s get to the track list and the music:

NOTE: This is it! I am headed to the beach for a couple of days and I’m leaving the laptop behind. No internets, no emails, no tweets (okay, probably some from the iPhone) and no updates. Just whiskey, homebrew, a beach, a grill and some ribs begging for 10 hours of low heat. I’ll be back to posting on June 3rd.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS / ENEMIES.

NINEBULLETS.NET APRIL PODCAST

Okay, last month we stumbled, both technically and performance wise, through the debut podcast. Now come month two we’re pretty much about to drop the cream of Americana podcasts (from one of the best Americana blogs) on you, and our tech is prepped for the amount of awesome that you’re likely to find yourself listening to multiple times a week. I know I’m coming off like the Kanye West of the Americana blogging community, but I don’t give a fuck. I like fish sticks and (having listened to this thing 10 times since I made it) I’m telling you, you’re gonna love it and you’re gonna listen to it numerous times. I feel that confident.

Some of the improvements this month are a new microphone (thanks to Trevor’s suggestion) so there’s no more overwhelming hiss and instead of shuffling (and struggling) through 3 different programs for the podcast, I found a one-stop shop program in Mixcraft that’s programmed in the same manner as I work. These changes have given the whole effort a much more professional feel, and added to that is the fact that I am starting to embrace the drunken talking to yourself in the middle of the night reality of podcasting. That said, I worry this may be the crest. I fear this may be the best 9b podcast ever and it’s all downhill from here. Yes, I am that confident in the material in the hour that’s posted under this text. That said, I am gonna bust my ass to match it in May.

So, here is the tracklisting for what very well may be the best ninebullets.net podcast there ever will be:

  1. Drive-by Truckers – Nine Bullets
  2. Autopsy IV Commentary
  3. Strawfoot – Cursed Neck
  4. Pinebox Serenade – Woven Arms
  5. Uncle Sinner – When Jesus Comes
  6. Autopsy IV Commentary
  7. Olin & The Moon – Call Me Up
  8. American Aquarium – California
  9. Eileen Jewell – Sea of Tears
  10. Autopsy IV Commentary
  11. Drag The River – Old Sad Songs [extended] (Lucero Cover)
  12. Gillian Welch & Old Crow Medicine Show – The Weight (The Band Cover)
  13. Scott H. Biram – Sinking Down (FD Session)
  14. Jon & Chad (Drag The River) – Dancin’ In The Moonlight (Thin Lizzy Cover)
  15. Autopsy IV Commentary
  16. Grayson Capps – Going Back To The Country
  17. Chris Knight – Enough Rope
  18. Autopsy IV Commentary
  19. Two Cow Garage – Should’ve California

IF YOU LISTEN TO THIS AND ENJOY IT PLEASE FORWARD IT TO SOMEONE ELSE!

THE NINEBULLETS.NET PODCAST RETURNS:

I told you we’d get it all figured out. And we did. The more frequent and attentive visitors to the site might have noticed that last night the sidebar went through a few subtle changes. Thanks to our stellar tech machine Dr. Trevorkian you can now subscribe to all of our RSS feeds, you can see my twitter activity and there is a link to the current podcast.

Without getting very technical (cause I don’t really understand it on that level), the first attempt at the podcast had us hosting everything here on the main site. In doing that the podcast was eating our RSS feed. In other words, disaster…perhaps Trevor can post a more detailed explanation in the comments. Now what we have is a separate, official ninebullets.net podcast site. This will work out pretty nicely I think. The sidebar will link over to the site and all the podcasts will be available over there forever(ish) as opposed to the mere 30 days things are available here on the main site. Each time I post a new podcast I’ll mention it over here in a post and included the embeded player you see below.

I hope y’all enjoy these things.

Also, you’ll notice on the site of the podcasts that there is a paypal donation area in the sidebar. I’m not too keen on begging for money but at the same time, there is nothing about this site that’s free and, if you notice, there are no ads. Granted, the five dollars a month is not gonna break me but it is an added cost. If you feel like it, drop a donation. If not, enjoy the music and buy a shirt or cd from one of the bands I write about.

As a final order of business I would like to thank Blake from the podcast It Burns When I Pee for his donation of a couple of hours today to design a ninebullets.net podcast logo for me. Go check out his podcast and thank him for helping me out.

That’s is. Let’s Podcast. Once again, here is the tracklist for the debut podcast and I’m sorry for getting so drunk by the end of it.

  1. Drive-By Truckers – Nine Bullets
  2. Leonard Cohen – Everybody Knows
  3. Autopsy IV
  4. Lucero – I’ll Just Fall
  5. Drive-By Truckers – Women Without Whiskey

DEBUT OF THE NINEBULLETS.NET PODCAST:

Here it is. The first ninebullets.net podcast. I was originally gonna clean this up and try to add a few bells and whistles to it but then I remembered I am gonna be out of the office all day today so if I was gonna put up anything it would need to be this.

Anyhow. The plans are to get a better microphone before I make another one. Also, does anyone know how to make a podcast so that it displays what songs are being played? Or, a wordpress plugin that will let you skip songs should you want to.

Anyhow, give it a listen and tell me what you think. Any creative criticism is welcome. Here is the tracklisting:

  1. Drive-By Truckers – Nine Bullets
  2. Leonard Cohen – Everybody Knows
  3. Autopsy IV
  4. Lucero – I’ll Just Fall
  5. Drive-By Truckers – Women Without Whiskey
  6. Scott H. Biram – Blood, Sweat & Murder
  7. Autopsy IV
  8. Jawbone – Saucy Sauce

  14. Autopsy IV
  15. American Relay – Bonedry
  16. Chris Knight – Down The River
  17. Autopsy IV
  18. Drive-By Truckers – Nine Bullets

Edit: The Podcast plugin we were using killed our RSS Feed so we killed the plug-in (yup, that’s how we roll). As with everything in computers we were fools to think it would work right the very first time. HOWEVER, the podcast will return….somehow, someway.
