30 DAY SONG CHALLENGE: DAY 25:

So, I’ve decided to do this facebook 30 Day Song Challenge (you can see previous days here) thing and I figured I’d do it here on ninebullets. Feel free to contribute your thoughts in the comments section.

DAY 25: A SONG THAT MAKES YOU LAUGH:

When I was a kid, I didn’t think there was a funnier song sung and to this day, if you say “funny song” it’s the first one that comes to mind:

Ray Stevens – Mississippi Squirrel Revival

But I gotta be honest…this might be the funnies song ever:

Incredibad – Dick In A Box (featuring Justin Timberlake)

DAY 24: A SONG THAT YOU WANT PLAYED AT YOUR FUNERAL:

Well. First off, I don’t really want a funeral. Just burn me and get rid of the ashes. I’ll be dead so I don’t much care what you do with the ashes either. I guess I’m just not the sentimental type when it comes to my own corpse but if I were going to have a my corpse stuffed full of chemicals, shoved in a box and sealed in a concrete encased whole….I’d like them to play song while they did it:

JJ Grey & Mofro – The Sun Is Shining Down

DAY 22: A SONG THAT YOU LISTEN TO WHEN YOU’RE SAD:

When I’m sad, I like to get in there and wallow like a pig in mud and Everybody Knows by Leonard Cohen is 100% pure enabler. Possessing the obligatory pessimistic shell it’s real beauty comes from the anger hidden underneath. Love it.

Leonard Cohen – Everybody Knows

So, what about you? Do you look for music to reinforce your sadness or do you look for tunes that’ll lift you out of your funk?

DAY 21: A SONG THAT YOU LISTEN TO WHEN YOU’RE HAPPY:

What is this “happy” you speak of?
Lately, I’ve been listening to this song…..alot.
The first time I hear it it makes me happy. Then, I wanna listen again.

Grayson Capps – Highway 42

DAY 20: A SONG THAT YOU LISTEN TO WHEN YOU’RE ANGRY:

This one is a no brainer. When I’m pissed off I instinctively reach for Pantera’s 1992 masterpiece, Vulgar Display Power. While, naturally, I’ll listen to the entire album when I’m pissed I always start with the same song:

Pantera – Fucking Hostile

What’s your go to “rage tune”?

DAY 19: A SONG FROM YOUR FAVORITE ALBUM:

When reading through the list of subjects each day had the first time I just assumed this day would feature a song from Lucero’s self-titled album but the longer I thought about it the clearer it became that that was not gonna be the case. Look, I know I pan on the Truckers sometimes but the truth is, up through The Dirty South they could do no wrong and if I were forced to sit in a room and only listen to 1 album for the rest of my days, The Dirty South would be that album so here’s my favorite song from it:

The Drive-By Truckers – Never Gonna Change

DAY 18: A SONG YOU WISH YOU HEARD ON THE RADIO:

For me, this one is pretty easy. While there are literally thousands of songs I wish got any play in the radio, I truly believe Glossary could do the most damage with it. To me, their sound is pure rock and roll and if they could get any push behind them I think the unwashed masses would fall in love with them.

Glossary – Save Your Money For The Weekend

How about you? What band do you wish would get a little airplay?

Speaking of airplay, I played Glossary on this week’s episode of Ninebullets Radio. Go listen to it via the stream.

DAY 17: A SONG THAT YOU OFTEN HEAR ON THE RADIO:

I honestly could not tell you the last time I turned on the radio to listen to music. I do, however, listen to a whole friggin lot of sports talk radio and this song is played frequently as bumper music and in intros on a lot of sports talk shows:

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic – Atomic Dog

In the era of iPods and smartphones streaming Pandora do you still listen to the radio for music?

DAY 16: A SONG THAT YOU USED TO LOVE BUT NOW HATE:

Man, back in 1993 when August and Everything After came out I loved this song. It so spoke to me. Now, some 17 years later, I find it tedious and whiny.

Counting Crows – Raining In Baltimore

DAY 15: A SONG THAT DESCRIBES YOU:

We’re officially at the 1/2 point of this Lose Weight Exercise and it’s asking for a song that describes me. At first I wanted to post Corporate Slave by Snog but I realized that more than anything that was just me lashing out at my current situation so it was back to the drawing board. Well. Not really. This one was easy. Old Sad Songs by Lucero is a conversation that’s played out in my house more than a few times. While I do love the Lucero version I love this Jon Snodgrass cover of it even more.

Jon Snodgrass – Old Sad Songs

Your turn.
