I don’t have any grand or insightful things to say about Patrick Swayze. Hell, I’d pretty much forgotten about the man before he got cancer but last night, when I heard he died, I had to dig out Angel Eye’s by Jeff Healey and give it a listen.
So I thought I’d share it.
Jeff Healey – Angel Eyes (from the Roadhouse Soundtrack)
Patrick Swayze – She’s Like The Wind (from the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack)

I had to point out to my mom last year that ‘Angel Eyes’ was in fact written by John Hiatt.
WTF is up with 2009 and people dying? I’m ready for this year to end.

Howdy. Reverend Marcus from Strawfoot, here. When I’m not singing angry songs about damnation I fancy myself a writer.
One book I recently published is called “Nobody Puts Swayze in the Corner: the Tao of Swayze”
It pairs Swayze movie quotes with passages of the Tao Te Ching. All the money raised from the sale of this book is donated to the American Cancer Society. It’s a cause very close to me, and not simply because I’m a huge fan of Roadhouse.
I like to do a little good when I can, how I can. This is how I can.
This is how you can, too.

Rev,
where did the idea for that book come from?

it actually came from within the plot of my novel, Rorschach’s Ribs. One of the characters is trying to write said book. When I learned a friend was fighting cancer, I thought it would be a good way to help the cause, and I must admit, I’m a little Swayze crazy. Road House is among my favorites in cimema. Pain Don’t Hurt kind of inspired the text.
