Doing the piece on Cunninlynguists got me to thinking about Goodie Mob and Outkast. I’ve heard rumors (confirmed via Wikipedia so much as Wiki can confirm anything) of Goodie Mob reuniting with Cee-lo for a new cd but what became of Outkast. IMO, they lost their mojo after Stankonia continued to fade with Speakerboxxx/Love Below and became utterly forgettable after Idlewild. Last I had heard, 10 the Hard Way, was supposed to have came out this year which would have satisfied their contractual obligations and I assumed Outkast would then die a much needed death until the eventual reunion tour/album. So what happened? I set out to ask Google and found my answers via 2 site (here and here):

One album remains on Outkast’s LaFace contract. It was originally planned as a ten-track release called 10 The Hard Way; shortly after Idlewild dropped, the duo confirmed the album is still in the works, though both have begun new projects without releasing any new information on the album. In a recent interview with the L.A. Times, OutKast confirmed that “10 The Hard Way” was still going to come out, but said they would keep it ‘under wraps’ until the album’s release, still possibly two years away.

While you’re waiting for info, here’s something new from the duo courtesy of Spine Magazine. “Da Art of Storytellin’ Part 4” feature’s Floetry’s Marsha Ambrosius and will appear on DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz: The Album, out next week.

  1. What in the hell are you talking about?! Kast didnt fade with Speakerboxx/Love Below. Last I looked, they won a grammy for album of the year (not hip hop album of the year, but overall album of the year), and the album went diamond. That much needed death that you assume for will have to wait because new King Shit is on the way. The most creative, fearless and timeless music, ever!

  2. they won a grammy for album of the year

yup and boring, safe ol’ Norah Jones won it the year before…When Outkast was at their best they weren’t even being invited to the Grammys…

    and the album went diamond

I do not care about album sales…the masses buy whatever is in heavy rotation…

  3. You obviously have fell and bump’d your cranium! Outkast has been at the grammy’s ever since they’ve dropped. And nothing they’ve done has ever been safe and in line with what the masses have been doing… the went from pimps and players, to futuristic atliens, to fortune telling, to civil rights leader, then to singing and playing every instrument on every track!! Know what you’re talking about before you speak. And since every album has gone multiplatinum they’ve kept the people fed.

“Ya’ll don’t hear me, you just want to dance”… Hey YA

  4. the grammy’s comment was metaphoric…

as for the rest…I’ll stick to my original statement…Outkast has been in a downward spiral since Stankonia…

  5. youre an idiot. eveything outkast release is genius. period.

  6. Finally, some satire in the comments!

  7. youre an idiot. eveything outkast release is genius. period.

    yeah….Idlewild….GEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNIIIIUS. < / sarcasm>

again. the boys fell off after Stankonia…furthermore, the drop from Aquemini to Stankonia was startling.

  8. Wow.. that’s some mighty fine comedy there between you and whoever that is! Good belly laugh this morning. I will put my two cents in here! I actually enjoyed Speakerboxx/Love Below, and also believe that are musical geniuses. However, I also agree with you that they have taken a slide since Stankonia and nothing they have done since has lived up their true talent. Stankonia was the last “true Southern funk” Outkast CD.

And I also agree that records sales, charts, Grammy’s, etc., don’t mean shit – doesn’t give you talent and in reality boils down to a popularity contest! A true music lover would know that.

    Well said B-Rad!

  9. idiots! Their music has changed and evolved over the years.. It is completely different and it should be. Why would they continue to make the same shit over and over decade after decade. Fuck southern Funk!! Think they give a damn??? They reinvent there shit better than anyone. obviously some people are not going to like it as much as there old stuff. But obviously enough people do like it becasue they are selling so much more.. I understand the popularity contest comment but when it comes to going DIAMOND!!!!! obviously (again) there is a shit ton of people who love the MUSIC. And even if it wasn’t good music (it is though)jjj.. their goal as well as 99.9% of artists goals is to sell as many records as possible and thats just what they have been doin whether your dumbasses like it or not. If they could sell 20 million by farting on a record they would do it.. Describe falling off dude. does it mean they dont make the same ol shit that you are so used to so they are no longer good? Wake up.

Peace!! but not really.. suck a fat dick

  10. deez is right man, y’all being ridiculous. this is little kid shit, just because something changes it sucks? Every album they drop is new and badass, a lot of people don’t even think stankonia is the best record, they think the two before it were the masterpieces, regardless everyone of them has been badass. speakerboxx/ LB was awesome, there is no challenging that. You’re the only person I have ever heard bitch about a double album. If you are so upset about missing southern rap you should probably stick to listening to some pretty boring shit like Nelly that way you don’t have to think too hard. Lastly, there will never be another stankonia, there won’t be another love below or speakerboxx, they are going to keep changing, if you can’t hang with that maybe you should stick to listening to the corny shit your used too. So when 10 the Hard Way drops, and Outkast reinvents themselves yet again, you won’t be scared about their new sound. The rest of us will be rocking that shit.
