Back in the day…long before this particular blog existed, the wife and I had a brief love affair with a band called Blood Meridian. They made these beautiful slow dirgey type songs. A year or so ago they released their follow-up and had basically turned into a rock band. The album was a major disappointment for the wife and myself, and Blood Meridian has basically fallen off our radar.

I am not sure how the self-titled disc by Vancouver’s Ladyhawk ended up in my house or how, on football kickoff weekend, I ended up listening to it, but I’m sure glad I did. They have made the cd I was hoping for from Blood Meridian’s sophomore effort. Aching (in a haunting way, not a “i got a paper cut” emo way) songs with plenty of hooks and bluesy rock and roll guitar riffs galore. A quick google search shows me that I am really late to the Ladyhawk party, but I’m coming anyway. Maybe there will be some drunk lonely chick in the corner looking for some empty sex.
