J Kutchma & The Five Fifths are the latest release from one of the labels all too willing to fill the void left by the sudden vanishing of Suburban Home Records, Last Chance Records.

J Kutchma & The Five Fifths are the real deal.

There are a lot of ways to write these pieces. I’ve chosen a simple quote from the band’s song, Used To Believe, to do this one. Well. That and the label Essential Listening. Especially if you like the truth via rock and roll ala McDougall and/or Tim Barry.

So. Anyhow, here is said, “it’s all here” quote:

I wrote songs that matter! I had a story to tell!
I thought that’s what the world wanted as well
I wrote the greatest songs you never heard
You assholes asked for Freebird
Well damn you and FM Radio straight to hell

  1. If you dig this make sure you check out JKutchma’s other band – Red Collar. They released a new record called Welcome Home last month. A little less country and a lot more rock and roll. Kicks all kinds of ass.

  2. What did happen with Suburban Home Records? The anniversary weekends were one of my favorite things about living in Denver.

    1. I don’t know much more than you. Virgil keeps saying an announcement is coming soon. I reached out to him recently to see if he’d be interested in doing an interview for 9b but didn’t get a response.

However, I do think it’s safe to say that SH is basically done or it’s gonna scale back to just a couple of releases a year.

Not sure. Like you, I am wondering.

  3. I’m with you Kevin! I met J at a Red Collar show at the White Water Tavern. It was a Monday night and they played to a crowd of 4 people. They played like the house was full and on fire!

    1. you could pass it on to a vinyl-enabled staff member if you’re able…
