Low Anthem are Brown kids--What the Crow Brings is definitely a sick album. They are playing this week down the street from my house at this independent movie theater. Autopsy and people who read this blog would be into one of the opening bands--that band is called brownbird (http://www.myspace.com/brownbird).

y'know, the contrast in styles honestly doesn't occur to me because the songs are so thematically tied. for me, it's like pieces of a puzzle. i can see where that contrast is jarring to some, though.

you're in PDX? round up some folks. i'd be there if i could!

and go yanks is right.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the two distinct styles on this record - the ethereal, moody stuff and the foot-stomping bits. For me this is the hardest thing to reconcile as a whole album. The Low Anthem were recommended to me as a fan of Townes and Steve Earle and when I hear the first few tracks of The Low Anthem I was confused. That said, I'm a big fan of these guys and looking forward to seeing them in PDX in a few weeks.

ps- Go Yanks!
