Man, I originally went up to Minneapolis earlier this year under the thought process that it was gonna be the only way I would ever get to see most of the bands live. When I got back I spent the better part of a month writing about the bands here on ninebullets and telling anyone that would listen about them when I was out at the bars. Now, a little shy of 6 months later we’re starting to see some of those bands trickling into the Bay area. I would like to say my efforts played a part in it and I have managed to get the web site attached to a few of the shows but it’s really more Brett @ Steele Management that deserves the props for these shows than anyone.  None the less, here is a smattering of bands I saw at the Deep Blues Festival that you guys here in town will now get to see. To say these are ninebullets.net approved is a ridiculous understatement, I mean, I flew across country to see them. The least you could do is drive across a bridge.

Thursday, Nov. 6 @ The Orpheum: Those Legendary Shackshakers

Those Leg-en-dary muthafucking Shack Shakers. Does anything more really need to be said? Those who know. Know. Those who don’t. Well then, what the fuck is wrong with you? Get your ass to The Orpheum and see what Jello Biafra called rock and roll’s best frontman, Col. J.D. Wilkes. Snot rockets will be launched, pubes will be thrown, beers will be drank and howdy’s will get doodied. You may hate the music but you’ll love the show and I guarantee it. It’s Iggy Pop fronting Southern Culture on the Skids. The southern gothic, rock and roll version of the Sex Pistols but with more talent. It’s also their first show in Tampa since the departure of Mr. David Lee.

Those Legendary ShackShakers – All My Life To Kill
Those Legendary ShackShakers – No Such Thing
Those Legendary ShackShakers – Old Spur Line

Friday, November 7 @ Dave’s Aqua Lounge: .357 String Band

The .357 String Band comes looking like 1/2 an industrial rock band and 1/2 a country band. You would not expect lucking banjos, spinning upright bass and blended harmonies from these kids from Wisconsin but don’t let em fool you. Their Live show have been referred to as “Hoe-down meets Throw-down” by many a reviewer and their mix of old-school country/traditional mountain music and punk is sure to delight fans across a number of genres.

.357 String Band – Lon, Put Down That Gospel
.357 String Band – Black River Blues
.357 String Band – Glory, Amen

Tuesday, Nov. 18 @ Dave’s Aqua Lounge: The Black Diamond Heavies

This is a ninebullets.net sponsored show. We’re sponsoring this show cause we believe that The Black Diamond Heavies are an unstoppable force and we just wanna get on the fame train. Here’s what I said about these cats when I saw them at The Deep Blues Festival:

I was worried that I might have over-romanticized what actually getting to see the force that is The Black Diamond Heavies was going to be like, but the truth is I sold them short. I’d heard the hype, I believed the hype…I just didn’t understand the hype. Now I’ve witnessed the hype and I am a believer. BDH get down like no others, never miss a chance to see them live. They’ll rock the panties off your granny, believe that.

Now, I get to see them perform inside a club and do a full set. Suffice it to say I am on 100% hype mode for this show. But don’t just take my word for it. Here is what the Creative Loafing said about the last show BDH played in town:

Call me a convert. Call me a sinner. Call me what you will. I have witnessed the devil’s music of the Black Diamond Heavies and am ready to testify.

This is the first public show ninebullets.net has had anything to do with. Please come out and show some support.

Black Diamond Heavies – Smooth It Out
Black Diamond Heavies – Bidin’ My Time
Black Diamond Heavies – White Bitch

Thursday, Dec. 11 @ The Garage: ninebullets.net presents: Scott H. Biram

Here it is. This is was the step I’ve always wanted ninebullets.net to take; ninebullets.net presents. How freaking awesome is it that the first ninebullets.net presents takes place with one of our Top 3 artists, Mr. Scott H. Biram (the H stands for Fuck You). It’s utterly completly and stupidly awesome…that’s how awesome it is. Now, I know over the past year Scott’s shows have been getting hit and miss reviews. I know his last Tampa show was pretty sloppy. I know and so does Scott. He has since put down the whiskey bottle on show nights and his show reviews have been glowing ever since. Here is what a buddy of mine had to say about seeing Scott live for the first time:

You don’t really know what to expect when the little guy in the green trucker cap sits down on the stage. Biram looks like a guy you’d pass coming out of the bathroom at a Flying J truckstop on I-10. However he attacks honky tonk and blues with a vicious growl and doesn’t let you go until you are stomping you feet and screaming “Whiskey!”…

So let’s get out and show these fuckers at The Garage what the ninebullets.net readership and The Church of the Ultimate Fanaticism is all about.

Scott H. Biram – Spoonful
Scott H. Biram – Long Fingernail
Scott H. Biram – Blood, Sweat & Murder

Also, down the road in Feb. one of the fellers I came away from the Deep Blues Festival, The Reverend Deadeye, will be brining his one-man preaching outfit to Dave’s as well but there will be plenty of time to talk about that show after the new year.

  1. Well done. I’m already considering relocating.

  2. What?!? No mention of the Sisters Of Mercy?

    ;)

  3. oh yeah. The non-goth / goth-rock band is playing soon to.

I would have thought about going to the show but their live show gets such terrible reviews…i’d rather save the money.

  4. Another Deep Blues band coming to town is Juke Joint Duo–Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcolm at Skipper’s on Tuesday Nov. 18th. I caught them at the Chicago Blues Fest in June and they were the highlight of the fest for me.

  5. DEEERRRRRRR….Fuck.

drkptt, you are correct. I forget about that show cause it’s the same night as the BDH show.
