Lucero been crowd testing some new songs for a while now and they’ve been popping up on live boots here and there. Hell, I think I’ve posted a few on here already.

Well, last month one of my fellow Lucero Message Board members collected a lot of them into one post. I dunno why I didn’t think about it at the time but it took seeing them posted on another blog (Fuel/Friends) to think, “Fuck! I should share all of these with the 9b.net readers“.

So, my bad. I’m sorry. Better late than never and all that shit. Which one do you like the best?

I can’t wait to hear the studio version of Sixes and Sevens.

Ben Solo – Hey Darlin’, Do You Gamble?

Lucero – Hey Darlin’, Do You Gamble?
Lucero – Darken My Door
Lucero – What Are You Willing To Lose
Lucero – Johnny Davis
Lucero – Sounds of the City
Lucero – Goodbye Again
Lucero – Can’t Feel The Pain
Lucero – The Devil and Maggie Chascarillo
Lucero – Lonesome Dogtown Nights
Lucero – Sixes and Sevens

Okay. I admit. I’ve never heard a studio version of a single Taylor Swift song. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about having seen her on TV and I’m always struck by the same notion when I do see her.

There’s no emotion.
None.
She’s plastic.
She’s stiffer than my cock in a Heidi Klum / Megan Fox sandwich.

Seriously, watch this shit:

It’s like she’s singing off a cue card. Do you hear the same thing I do?

When William Elliott Whitmore does a Daytrotter Session I feel it’s my obligation to tell you guys.

Last week a friend of mine and I were sitting in a bar talking about music and William came up. My friend made the comment that William is probably the most underrated musician in this little genre with a million names that we talk about and really, I can’t see to disagree with him.

Anyhow. There is an excellent article and 4 songs over on the Daytrotter page. Included in the set is a cover of the Bad Religion song, Don’t Prey On Me. So go check it out.

I am not gonna include any of the songs from the current session in this post but I will include some from his debut Daytrotter session but you should go check that one out as well. If for nothing else go check it out for the text that accompanies the songs.

Patterson Hood sent out an email recently that contained a lot of interesting information I thought I’d pass along:

  • Patterson’s second solo album, Murdering Oscar (and other love songs) is available for pre-order. One of the available pre-order packages includes an autographed 180 gram vinyl album, a digital download and a signed (by Wes Freed) and numbered giclée of the album artwork.
  • Summer dates are scarce but Patterson hopes to take his merry band of Screwtopians (David Barbe, Will Johnson, Scott Danbom, John Neff and Brad Morgan) on a coast to coast tour somtime later this year. (PATTERSON! YOU GUYS REMEMBER WHERE FLORIDA IS?????)
  • July 7 will see the DVD release of the Trucker’s appearance on PBS’s Austin City Limits. The DVD contains the complete show (only approx. 1/3 aired) which features on of the last ever performances of “18 Wheels Of Love”, featuring the full monologue and the sequel monologue. (I NEED A COPY OF THIS!)
  • On Sept. 7, DBT’s former label, New West Records, will be releasing The Fine Print (A Collection of Oddities and Rarities 2003-2008). The album will contain many hard to find tracks such as “George Jones Talkin’ Cell Phone Blues”, “Rebels”, “Play It All Night Long”, “TVA” and the original version of “Goode’s Field Road”. (FINAL MONEY GRAB BY NEW WEST OR LEGIT RELEASE? THE REST OF THE TRACKLIST WILL TELL)
  • And finally, sounds like the band is in the studio this month recording the as of yet untitled follow-up to Brighter Than Creation’s Dark. They hope to release it sometime in early 2010. (HOPEFULLY THE LABEL CHANGE WILL LEAVE THE BAND FEELING ENERGIZED)

Bob Log came. Bob Log saw. Bob Log asked us to shit down his leg.

To say that Bob Log kicked ass is an illustration of words not doing a show justice.

To say that you missed a fantastic show is less a declaration and more of a me pointing and laughing at you…the lazy scene that is Tampa/St. Pete.

So yeah, Bob Log came and, in typical fashion, Tampa/St. Pete didn’t.

You Suck.

Bob Log fucking ruled.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’m gonna let James’ photos do the rest of the talking since all I wanna talk about is how shitty the Bay area’s music scene is and how sick I am of making excuses for it….It rained. Gasparilla is 278 days away…etc. etc. But before I go, lemme ask you Tampa, lemme ask you St. Pete: Why is it Orlando’s music scene can be so damned good and ours so freaking shitty?

PICTURES FROM THE SHOW ARE HERE

Edit: I wrote this is a fevered pace 1/2 drunk an hour after the show. Sober, I thought about deleting it and moving on but then I decided it needs to be said. The Tampa/St. Pete music crowd has gotten so complacent it’s almost…no…is…it is embarrassing. So there. I said it and I feel better for it.
Bob Log III – Goddamn Sounds Good
Bob Log III – My Shit Is Perfect
